Sylvia Martinez - Invent to Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom

I met with Sylvia at a learning conference a few year ago. I like her thinking and it's great to see her promoting the maker movement. 
Her message: teachers need to be clear about what they believe about learning.

Sylvia works in schools around the world to bring the power of authentic learning into classrooms, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) subjects. Sylvia speaks, writes, and advocates for student-centered, project-based learning, gender equity in technology, computer programming, and life-long learning. For the past ten years, Sylvia was President of Generation YES, a non-profit with a mission of empowering young people to improve their schools and communities with modern technology. Previous to Generation YES, Sylvia was in charge of product development at several software publishers, designing and creating video games and educational software. Sylvia also had a career in aerospace engineering as a senior scientist on the GPS navigational satellite system research and development. She holds a masters in educational technology and a bachelors in electrical engineering.

Please complete work on poppies today. Save by exporting your artwork as a jpeg to the ANZAC folder on the student drive. Some of you may like to use paint to create a collage of poppies including other peoples work. Don't forget to as permission.

Cyber Citizenship at Coatesville School

Room 9 and 10 at Coatesville School have been learning about Cyber Safety and KOS. 
Today they are going to work in pairs creating a google doc to share their what they have learnt about Cyber Safety so far.

Start by creating a google doc.

Share your doc with another group. allow them to edit your doc and add more content. 
Rules to collaboration.
  • Respect each others opinions.
  • Read the shared doc before adding your contribution.
  • Be careful to aviod writng over or deleting each others content.
  • Make sure what your are writing is relevant to the topic.    

Final process - create a google slide together to be shared the Forrest Hill School students.

  • Avatar created (My Blue Robot) and upload image to google drive.
  • Complete cyber safety websites certificates ie. NSTeeens, Webonauts
  • Post learning about cyber safety on the Endeavour blog under NSTeens and Webonauts posts. 
  • Setup personal blog. Customise the look.
  • Bookmark - my blog in chrome browser.
  • Symbalooedu  make sure this is set up and bookmarked. Remember you can login with your gmail.
  • Copy and paste your Moon Story on Blogger to share with someone from another Arataki class.
